Harken is one of the leading brands when it comes to deck equipment. Among the latest innovations he presented are the Performa 55.3 winch which were installed on Allagrande Pirelli, the boat with which Ambrogio Beccaria participated in the last Route du Rhum. But Harken’s innovations include more than just the ocean winch!
Harken – The ocean winch
Harken’s Performa 55.3 winch was born from the demand of Oceanic sailors in the Class 40s, one of the “hottest” classes of the moment that features several Italians, such as those currently engaged in the Route du Rhum. On the Performa, limited RPM is sufficient to handle high loads. On boats where continuous sail adjustment is needed, the crew is greatly facilitated and can work very quickly and with great sensitivity on gusts and wind shifts.
The new hydraulic backhoe tensioner
Harken has unveiled its new range of high-strength, hardcoat anodized aluminum hydraulic tensioners. The single unit consists of a cylinder and a pump, valve, and handle. Harken’s new integral tensioner cylinders are available in 4 sizes for boats from 9 to 18 meters for 5- to 10-millimeter cables. The latter can be permanently attached or can be disassembled and stored aside. The system is designed for robustness and ease of use, with the pressure-release knob allowing gradual adjustment. In each case, the maximum pressure is calibrated directly by Harken engineers, so as to prevent excessive stress on the backstay. The new backstay tensioner is available in 4 different sizes for boats between 9 and 18 meters in length and stays from 5 to 10 millimeters.
