Big party in Milan, at Villa Necchi Campiglio, for the 2022 edition of the Garmin Beat Yesterday Awards, the awards where great sports champions honor ordinary people who have been the protagonists of small, or big, epic feats.
Over the course of the evening, where the likes of sportsperson Antonella Palmisano (Olympic gold medalist in the march), cycling champion Vincenzo Nibali and Filippo Ganna, the world’s fastest cyclist on the hour mountaineer Simone Moro, and entertainment personalities such as Linus and Ghemon took the stage, sailing also had its own space.
The importance of following a dream
Among the awardees, in fact, was a “hidden hero” of Luna Rossa. Davide Pescuma, 29, from Milan, Italy.
Davide Pescuma was born into a normal family, with dad a mechanic. Although the sea is not just around the corner, Davide since childhood, thanks to family cruises on a small 7 1/2-meter boat, fell in love with this extraordinary element until it became his life’s dream.

So he began chartering, then shoreteaming for a TP52 Super Series crew, Bronenosec, finally turning his sights to the bigger goal: applying for the Luna Rossa youth project. He wants at all costs to be aboard the new flying AC75 with which Patrizio Bertelli’s team is preparing America’s Cup number 36.
Just when the circle seems to close, during testing, Davide twice reports a serious knee injury that forces him to give up his sports dream.
However, misadventure does not write the end of this story: Luna Rossa notices him and puts him on the shore team as a plumbing manager. In this way, Davide manages to combine his passion for the sea with family tradition, crowning his dream in an unexpected, yet beautiful way.
Presenting his story at the Garmin Beat Yesterday Awards 2022 was sailing stalwart Federico Michetti. The award was presented by world champion track cyclist Elia Viviani.
