Five used boats from 9.99 to 12.17 m

Used boats on sale: Bavaria 32 Cruiser – 9.99 m – Cruising according to Farr

It was not a good time in 2010 for Bavaria, but the shipyard decided to relaunch itself with a cruiser of limited size and with a major signature, that of Bruce Farr: the result was apt.

The first of the used boats we offer is a 2010 Bavaria Cruiser 32 (9.99 x 3.42 m), great for your comfortable cruising but also to take away some performance satisfaction. Plus it is a vessel so it does not need registration (and paperwork).

The model we offer, in perfect condition and visible in La Spezia, has wheel steering, two cabins, one bathroom, electric toilet, Volvo engine, full electronics, heater, sprayhood, bimini.

Nicholson 32 – 10.06 m – Give me 10 meters and I’ll go around the world

The second of the used boats for sale in our marketplace makes solid construction its strong point. We are talking about a Nicholson 32 Mark X (10.06 x 2.82 m), a great success of the legendary Camper & Nicholson yard designed by Charles A. Nicholson and his son Peter (the Nicholson family made yacht design history. Think America’s Cup challengers Shamrock and Endeavour, as well as a slew of custom ocean-going and cruising boats) that remained in production, with some modifications in progress, for more than 20 years (1962 to 1983) for a total of nearly 500 hulls launched.

Characterized by streamlined lines (waterline length is 7.32 m: a figure that gives a good idea of “soaring”), a well-buoyed and sheltered cockpit, a raised deckhouse that continues forward of the mast, it has a long keel. To confirm its seaworthiness, suffice it to say that the Nicholson 32 is one of the boats selected by the Golden Globe organization (solo, non-stop round-the-world voyage on boats built before 1988, with almost no electronics).

Highlights below deck: the interior includes a double forward with V-beds. Proceeding aft is the bathroom, the saloon (with galley and chart table) well lit (odd, for the time) by the large windows in the deckhouse.

A boat for great sailing, and this one we propose, visible in Cyprus, is no exception. A 1977 Polish-flagged model, it has been completely overhauled and updated for ocean sailing. The price is low to speed up the sale.

Used boats on sale: Comet 10.50 – 10.50 m – “Italian-style” cruise

We continue with the third of the boats used in the review. A Comet 10.50 (10.50 x 3.35 m), a great classic of Italian cruising, but designed by Finot Studio.

It is a hull that has contributed to the fame of the Comar shipyard in Fiumicino. It was built starting in 1983 and combines sleek lines, a decidedly guessable hull, and decent sailing qualities (58.7 sq. m. upwind sail area for a total displacement of 5 tons).

The cockpit is well equipped, with deferred maneuvers. Below deck finds space for an XXL square (for the time!) with the galley located to port, chart table to starboard. There are two double cabins, one in the stern (with a large peacock beside it) and one in the bow, as well as a toilet. A

The model we propose, which can be seen in Eastern Liguria, is from 1985 and is ready to sail. Some of the “features”: 2010 Bukh 24 Hp engine, 2019 rigging, autopilot, windlass.

Euros 39 – 11.76 m – Amel’s debut

The fourth of the used boats under consideration, available on our marketplace, is truly “out of the box.” Here is an Amel Euros 39 (11.76 x 3.30 m).

The Euros was the first ketch designed by Frenchman Henry Amel in 1966: a solid, safe, comfortable but no-frills boat, ideal for long cruises and able to sail even in adverse weather conditions.

The fiberglass hull features a classic hull with rounded shapes, semi-long keel, skeg-supported rudder, and protected propeller. The water lines ensure a balanced and powerful step on the wave.

The model we offer, which can be seen in Rimini, is from 1977 and has undergone a long series of works and “improvements” over the years. For example: replacement of engine with a new Yanmar, replacement of inverter, axle line, muffler and engine electrical system, overhaul of masts with replacement of rigging, new furling jib, new UK sailmaker’s jib, Lofrans 1200-watt anchor windlass, new Furuno radar. The interior has also been overhauled with new teak wood dunnage, and some of the upholstery has been replaced with polished wood panels.

Valiant 40 – 12.17 m – As American as it gets!

We close our review with the fifth and last of the used boats. Again, this is a special model: a Valiant 40 cutter (12.17 x 3.76 m).

Valiant 40
Used boats – Valiant 40

An American-style boat (curious about the round stern), which designer Bob Perry designed in 1973 and remained in production-though with some updates-until 1992. A total of more than 200 hulls came out of the U.S. Uniflite shipyard (with plants in both Washington state and North Carolina).

The boat’s design was considered revolutionary at the time because it brought aspects of racing design to the hitherto heavy and slow “bluewater” cruising yachts. It is no coincidence that the Valiant 40 is included in the 1997 “American Sailboats Hall of Fame” and won the cruising boat of the decade award.

The model for sale is from 1980 and is perfect for a couple, with second guest cabin. Solidly built with fine woods, it is powered by Volvo Penta 50 hp Saildrive. Complete with every equipment (there is even radar), it is ready to sail.
