A beautiful and unpredictable Rolex Middle Sea Race, even with the becalmed weather the 606-mile offshore race confirmed itself as one of the undisputed queens of the Mediterranean, with twists and turns galore. In particular, the four MOD 70s in the race literally put on a show, with a thrilling finish at the finish line in Malta.

Rolex Middle Sea Race – Mana wins among MOD 70s

Maserati at the finish line in malta

It was not a dream race for Maserati and Giovanni Soldini, the Italian trimaran has a bittersweet relationship with the Rolex Middle Sea Race. In this light-wind edition, he was never able to get the pace fast enough to take the lead in the race, ending up chasing for a long time but giving a late stage comeback.

Mana crew celebrates

The race finish among the MOD 70s was “yellow.” Riccardo Pavoncelli’s Mana, first across the finish line after leading the race for a long time, was tailed to the last by Zoulou, which eventually came in just 58 seconds behind; Maserati, on the other hand, re-entered the fight with an edge further north of its opponents and overtook Snowflake and then attempted an assault on the top positions. In the end, the Italian trimaran was about 10 minutes behind the leading pair.

Rolex Middle Sea Race – The Situation of the Italians

The first monohull boat to cross the finish line was the maxi 100 Leopard 3, which must now await the results of the IRC overall ranking. Among the Italians, Ker 46 Lisa R has not had a too successful Middle Sea so far. Long in the wake of Daguet 3, the French Ker 46 given the lead at times, Lisa had almost overtaken him at Capo San Vito, staying glued to her opponent for a long time but running into a drop in wind below Pantelleria that caused her to slip in the rankings out of the momentary top 10. However, the situation remains fluid and anything can still happen.

Cippa Lippa

The best Italian boat at the moment is Guido Paolo Camucci’s Mylius 60 CK Cippa Lippa, given a constant comeback bearing after bearing and fighting for the podium in IRC overall. At the moment Cippa Lippa has already passed Lampedusa, and is engaged in the final upwind to Malta, arriving later today. For the final victory, however, there are still many boats in contention, among which Daguet always remains but NMYD 54 Teasing Machine is also fully in the game.
