“Radio Banchina” from the race courses continues to bring us news of the results of various sailing championships held in Italy and major international competitions. As we wait to focus on the Rolex Middle Sea Race starting next Oct. 22, we return to review the results of domestic and international regattas, starting with the ORC European Sport Boat recently concluded in Sistiana.
Regattas of the Week – Orc European Sport Boat, Sistiana (Trieste)

Light windy week for the ORC European Sport Boat races, the minialturas, which faced a program of six races including a coastal race. At the end of the week at the top of the overall ranking was Sugar, Ott Kikkas’ Corsa 915. A top year for the Estonian owner, who also won with the same boat and sailing team the Italian ORC Championship and with Italy 11.98 the ORC World Championship. Behind Sugar was Ugo Guarneri’s Delta 84 Chardonnay, and third was Britain’s SB4 Beugen II.
Regattas of the Week – World Formula Kite, Cagliari

Poetto beach, the Mistral blowing tensely, lots of colorful kites whizzing over the horizon, and people, lots of people cheering and enjoying the spectacle along the coast. This was the glimpse that characterized the “Sardinia Grand Slam 2022,” an event valid as the World Championship of the Formula Kite class. The world title flies to Slovenia at the hands of Toni Vodisek who preceded on the podium the SingaporeanMaximilian Maeder and Frenchman Axel Mazella, second and third respectively. Fifth place overall for Riccardo Pianosi, an 18-year-old from Pesaro who is a member of Club Vela Portocivitanova (CVP), who recorded the best finish among the Italian nationals in attendance.
Regattas of the Week – ILCA World Championship, Kemah (USA)

The 2022 ILCA 6 Women’s and Men’s World Championships concluded in Texas, with a total of 12 races completed. Tokyo Olympic gold medalist and Rio Olympic bronze medalist Anne-Marie Rindom of Denmark was elected world champion among women. American Peter Barnard secured the title among men. Italy had fielded athletes only among the women, where the best was Silvia Zennaro in 25th position.
Friendship Star Trophy, Brenzone (Verona)

Organized by the Circolo Nautico di Brenzone from October 14 to 16, twenty-five STAR class crews from eight nations participated. The overall victory went to Enrico Chieffi crewed by Manlio Corsi, with the Irish O’Learly brothers finishing second and the German crew of Hubert Merkelbach and Jan Eli Gravad in third. Crews raced in medium-light winds, with a total of five races held over the cost three days of the program.
Ezio Torboli Optimist Trophy, Riva del Garda (Trento, Italy).

Seven races for the juniors, which from the very first day saw Ukrainian Sviatoslav Madonich (6th at the Optimist ’22 Worlds) in the lead, but after the final races he won, yes, but by only one point over a very good Alberto Avanzini (CN Bardolino), who nibbled points after points off the Ukrainian, finishing a very good second place overall. Nice comeback by U.S. David Coates (Lauderdale YC), one of the athletes who are selected in the U.S. to participate in the most important events organized on the Upper Lake Garda. Among Cadets, fragliotta Vittoria Berteotti won, first overall, ahead of Mia Paoletti (Portocivitanova) and Ginevra Rovaglia (CN Bardolino). In both categories, the Torboli Trophy, awarded to the best club, went to Fraglia Vela Riva.
