Sailor of the Year Hall of Fame | Dario Noseda, the “crazy” oceanic starist (2018)

Starting next Jan. 30, the most prestigious award in Italian sailing, the Sailor of the Year, now in its 27th edition, returns. Again in this 2019 you will be the ones to choose who will be the biggest (and all the other “category” winners), tomorrow we will explain in detail how to vote!

But in the meantime, it is time to relive, year by year, the stories of the Sailors of the Year, from 1991 to the present(HERE is the complete roll of honor).

IN 2018 IT’S THE TURN OF “LAGHE'” NOSEDA
In 2018, the Sailor of the Year went to Dario Noseda. “If I had to describe my feat with three emotions the first would be fear, the Ocean at some moments was frightening. The second is great personal satisfaction. The third is the abandonment of the freedom of this world when I put my foot down after beaching myself in St. Lucia.” This is what Dario Noseda, 50, told us when we asked him to tell us about his crossing of the Atlantic Ocean aboard a small, uninhabitable Star. And we understand Dario’s fear, who ended up in the sea by clinging to a sheet, attached by his fingernails to his Star, which in that case also meant life. We understand his satisfaction but more importantly we sense that sense of emptiness that can assail a person after more than thirty days at sea in extreme living conditions. Dario Noseda has given us back all his humanity, made up of emotions and weaknesses, because even those who cross the Ocean on a Star can be afraid. For this he became 2018 Sailor of the Year.
