Original, trendy, with an eye-catching look, are the Excess the new catamarans now close to market launch after their official presentation at Boot Dusseldorf. The brand, although part of the Beneteau Group, is a brand completely on its own and wants to embody a new philosophy in cruising on the two hulls.
In fact, the new Excesses, the 12 and 15 will be the first two models, do not only focus on comfort and typical cruising cat features, will have a larger ratio of sail area to displacement than the common cruising cat. This is due to a very careful construction of weight distribution and quantity, and of a sail plan with strong elongation.
A detail that will also allow for a shorter boom and a shorter jib base, resulting in easier maneuvering as well as better performance. Involved in the project are internationally renowned designers, such as the VPLP studio that designed the 12, Patrick le Quรฉment who is responsible for the exterior design of both, and Nauta Design for the interior.
The aesthetic and layout choices reflect the sport cruising propensity of these two catamarans. The living quarters are low on the deck and with 360-degree fenestration, of character is the choice to place the two wheelhouses symmetrically down, instead of opting for a fly bridge, with rigging returns on either side. From early drawings, the volumes of the hulls appear taut, with a hint of flaring on the top surface to have better aerodynamic trim.
