Ever since that cursed sea storm devastated the Gulf of Tigullio between October 29 and 30, 2018, our inbox has been bombarded with emails. “But so the TAG Heuer VELAFestival on May 2-5? Are you still doing it yes or no?” Legitimate questions: not only Rapallo suffered the fury of the waves, the port of Santa Margherita Ligure, now the “historic” home of the great Mediterranean sailing festival, was also hard hit.
Mayor Paolo Donadoni told us right away, “Don’t worry, the TAG Heuer VELAFestival will happen, we are rolling up our sleeves.” And indeed, this was the case.
In the photosequences (taken by Drone Service) we show you the Santa Margherita Ligure marina before the storm surge, immediately after, and as it appears today after the initial reconstruction work, which is continuing at full speed. Everything is going according to plan: write us no more emails, and come to the TAG Heuer VELAFestival in Santa Margherita Ligure.
We are waiting for you with boats from the best Italian and international shipyards, many characters, accessories, an entire area dedicated to sustainability, meetings, events. And don’t miss the Sailor of the Year award night on Friday, May 3, at 7 p.m.: the next day, everyone on the water, for the first leg of the 2019 TAG Heuer VELA Cup circuit!
