Now, more than ever, your role is critical: after they were down to 50 from 100 (or rather, 49, after Yakamoz withdrew from the games), you will be the ones to choose (you have until March 14 at 12 p.m.), with your votes, the 25 candidates who will enter the semi-finals of the Sailor of the Year. In this final stage, the Jury of the Journal of Sailing, also taking into account your votes, will select the five finalists. Who will win TAG Heuer Sailor of the Year and the other awards (#don’tcrackunderpressure, Innovation, Performance, Young) you will only find out at the Evening of Champions, scheduled for Friday, May 3 at 7 p.m. at the TAG Heuer VELAFestival in Santa Margherita Ligure.
Two good reasons to come: the first is that you will be able to meet and stay in touch with all the greats of Italian sailing and beyond, the other is that if you have voted over the three phases and we draw your email, you can win a TAG Heuer watch and a boat vacation provided by GlobeSailor Italia.
Meanwhile, let’s see how the popular votes are going:
HOW IS IT GOING
He firmly leads the Morgan IV, Nicola De Gemmis’ Grand Solei 39, with 1,125 votes. Blatant intention to go to the top of the polls and undermine Gentilina (Portesan family’s Oceanis 430) in the tally of total votes for the “Most Voted” award: by the way, Gentilina’s boys are slyly in eighth place… In second place is the Optimist kids’ team Sophie Fontanesi, Claudia Quaranta, Alex De Murtas and Lorenzo Pezzilli, with 716 votes, trailed only four votes behind by the brothers Francis and James Galimberti. In fourth place, already third in the first phase, is Cavallo Pazzo II, Enrico Danielli’s X35 with 669 votes: this is also a “hot” candidate for the Most Voted award…It is followed in fifth place by Piero Arduino’s First 31.7 Tekno, sixth Carlo De Paoli, seventh Matteo Sericano, and ninth Marco Carpinello. Closing out the top ten is the excellent Ambrogio Beccaria.
In 25th place, the last one useful for qualifying for the next stage, are Andrea Spagnoli and Giulia Fava with 215 votes, followed closely (214 votes) by Gianrocco Catalano’s First 40.7 Tevere Remo Mon Ile and Oscar 3 (Aldo Parisotto’s Mylius 65). All yet to be seen: they are recovering many positions, after a muted start, Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti!
