Sergio Caramel is much more than a testimonial for Montura, a historic outdoor and professional mountain clothing brand that has recently put a foot in the sailing world.
AN EXCEPTIONAL TESTER
Sergio (pictured, focused at the helm, with his Arkanoè Sailing Team-the 2019 European Minialtura champion on the Melges 24: along with him aboard Filippo Orvieto, Riccardo and Filippo Gomiero, and Margherita Zanuso), tests firsthand all the oilskins, spray tops, dungarees, pants, and jerseys that come out of the Trent-based company’s workshops, often hand-sewn by Montura owner Roberto Giordani.
He evaluates its characteristics under all conditions (“first thing, as soon as I get home with a new garment I wear it in the shower”), suggests modifications, new details, untapped potential. Besides being a good sailor, he is an Aerospace Engineering major and has a technical and analytical mind.
When we met him at METS in Amsterdam (the most important international trade fair for the accessories market) we didn’t miss the opportunity to let him tell us all the secrets of the Conero oilskin and dungarees from Montura’s Keepsailing line. Gore-Tex products full of hidden details and cleverness that only Sergio, whom we “co-opted” as a model, could reveal to us! (E.R.)
