Matteo Miceli and his zero-impact boat are waiting for you at the TAG Heuer VELAFestival!
THE PERFECT GIFT!
Give or treat yourself to a subscription to the print + digital Journal of Sailing and for only 69 euros a year you get the magazine at home plus read it on your PC, smartphone and tablet. With a sea of advantages.
This year, as we anticipated TAG Heuer VELAFestival (May 2-5, Santa Margherita Ligure) will be under the banner of sustainability thanks to the presence of Medplastic, initiative launched by the Journal of Sailing to safeguard the Mediterranean, which has become an association. And that he wants to rally as many “plastic hunters” as possible under his banner.
At the Medplastic booth you can sign the ecomariner’s manifesto and receive free “plastic-free” gadgets, and see how, in your own small way, you can help the cause. We will display projects, ideas, sustainable products (such as Atmo eco-pcs, computers that grow plants), the Medplastic 2019 calendar of events, and we will organize “educational” workshops for children and adults throughout the VELAFestival: are you sure you really know how recycling works?
Medplastic will obviously get its hands on events as well.
“WE ARE ALL ECOVELISTS”
Friday, May 3, as an appetizer for the Evening of Champions, where you will find out who will be the 2018 Sailor of the Year (by the way, we will also be awarding an Eco Medplastic prize on that occasion), we will reveal how to become true zero-impact sailors in the event “We are all eco-sailors.” and we could only do it with the most “eco” testimonial there is, Matteo Miceli.
The lone sailor who set out on an “emission-free” round-the-world trip in 2014, carrying two chickens and a hydroponic vegetable garden. Impossible not to elect him as an honorary member of Medplastic: Matteo will tell you about all the practical solutions for your boat (from solar panels to gray water) and the behaviors you need to have on board to respect the sea 100%, and he will share the stage with many other eco-sailors.
THE ZERO-IMPACT BOAT!
Plus, you will be able to touch his boat, Eco40, refurbished and on the dock at the VELAFestival. Matthew will be happy to invite you on board to “take a cue” from his solutions: solar panels, hydro generators, vegetable garden, electric foot and more! But there will be more than just Miceli: Ambrogio Beccaria, the young solo sailor who set the French in line on the Mini 650, will tell us why sailing is already an “eco” activity in itself.
We will have many testimonies from Italy’s largest sailing school, Centro Velico Caprera, which has always been at the forefront of environmental protection. We will also take the opportunity to reward the “plastic hunters” who got their hands dirty last summer around the Mediterranean and sent photos of their catches on Instagram for the “No Plastic” contest devised by Medplastic.
