Looking at it like this is almost scary. Luna Rossa very carefully centers the images to spread via social, but this time the viewpoint it offers is truly striking. A shot from the bow, with the foils carefully trimmed to conceal the shape of the appendages, showing a very interesting portion of Prada Pirelli Team’s hull.
The conditions would be assumed to be medium/light wind, judging from what little sea surface is visible, the sails (especially the double mainsail) are noticeable by the way, with a shape that would appear to be very powerful. But especially prominent is the hull “keel” (which we had also told you about HERE). A shape that is also present in part in the New Zealand hull and differs from those of the Americans and British.
The “keelboat” will probably be useful in pre foiling and pre starts, but that’s not necessarily all the benefits. In the stop-and-go phases Luna will have this useful volume probably to limit drift and provide less wet surface area. But even in accidental water contact (descent from foils or wave) Luna’s wet volume should be less than that of the other two rivals.
Meanwhile, curiosity is growing and on the other side of the world Team New Zealand is pushing into the fresh wind, as we show you in this video posted by the Sailing More facebook page. Impressive stable trim and speed of kiwis. Reduced infertility jib and square head from high wind is noted.
