“But I have never raced.” Perfect, you are ready for the TAG Heuer VELA Cup! Like every year, the TAG Heuer VELA Cup circuit returns, the big party made by sailors for sailors and lovers of the sea in general with tappers all over Italy.

Here are 10 reasons why everyone can participate in the VELA Cup

    1. Sailboats and sailors of all kinds are allowed, even relatives and friends for whom “dick” sounds like a dirty word.
    2. No need for tonnage certificates, fiv cards or all the bureaucratic complications involved. Just dust off the old gennaker and prepare the bag.
    3. There are no complicated regatta rules, but the regulations on boarding at sea, those rules we use every day to sail. Everything is easier within the reach of any fan, with respect for fair play and sportsmanship (CLICK HERE TO LEARN MORE)
    4. You win super prizes (for real). In addition to the regatta bag that is given to each crew (a copy of the Sailing Newspaper, T-shirt and Eco-sailor kit) a valuable Tag Heuer Aquaracer watch and a Garmin InReach is drawn at each VELA Cup among all participants!
    5. From Vincenzo Onorato to Tommaso Chieffi, via Mauro Pelaschier and Roberto Lacorte , there are plenty of super sailors who have made the VELA Cup. Same for My Song or the first Moro of Venice-just last year we reunited “the Moro boys” in Santa-but also crews of families and simple sailing enthusiasts like that of Luigi Gaddi, who with his Dufour 44, Lirae, was the overall winner of the 2018 VELA Cup circuit.

  1. You are never too old or too young for the SAIL Cup! The legendary Angela Besana Gagliardi who at 100 years old participated in the VELA Cup in Santa Margherita. In September, in Capo d’Orlando, Noah Siliato, just 3 months old, raced aboard Gianluca Roveraro’s Pogo 12.50 Magia!
  2. There are no old boats, they just become “vintage.” If you think your boat is not performing as well as it used to, don’t worry. In 2019, the VELA Cup will have a classification for “vintage boats” up to 1969 and “classicboats” from 1970 to 1988 (end of IOR).
  3. If you are not feeling “too competitive,” you can choose to sail in the “Cruising Class” where only white sails are sailed, with a dedicated ranking. The important thing is to have fun!
  4. Don’t have boarding or looking for a crew? Seeking/Offering boarding is already available on VELA Cup , in partnership with My Match Race
  5. If all this is not enough for you, we would like to remind you of the setting of the regatta: the gulf of Tigullio and Portofino, the real added value, the charm of sailing in one of the most beautiful places on our peninsula.
