Amsterdam – This year at DAME (the most important international award for nautical accessories, staged at METS Amsterdam) safety at sea won. Among the 59 products in “nomination” it came out on top. U Safe: a life-saving ring that becomes a boat, self-propelled, remote-controlled, designed to be a fast and precise “water robot” that can reach man overboard quickly and accurately.
Its ergonomic design and ability to operate quickly in forward and reverse convinced the judges, “It can reach speeds of up to 15 km/h, for 30 minutes of autonomy. The design incorporates fully flush hydrojet motors and large rigid intakes, as well as an easy-to-access U-shaped area in which to swim.
Its 13 kg weight, sturdy construction, and size enable its use on large pleasure boats and superyachts, but it obviously also has wider applications for marinas, shipyards, and other marine facilities.”
It remains to be seen whether in the future this solution, interfaced with an MOB system that sends the GPS signal of the man overboard, will be able to automatically reach the person to be rescued, thus without the need to be remotely controlled from aboard.
