Amsterdam – We’re at METS, the world’s largest nautical accessories trade show, hunting for the latest innovations. One is from veratron, the brand that markets VDO Marine products: we were very impressed with the range of new 12- and 7-inch Glass Line TFT displays, which are fully flush-mounted.

Elegant automotive-inspired displays that, in addition to having all the “classic” functions (boat data display, charting, radar, AIS, split screen, alarms, etc.) are based on Android and interface directly with your smartphone acting as repeaters for all your apps: Whatsapp, Netflix, Youtube and so on. You can respond to your Whatsapp chat (with a voice message) while at the helm, or relax in the evening with a TV series in the cockpit.

NFC TECHNOLOGY COMES TO MARINE ELECTRONICS
We were told about the product by veratron’s product manager Luca Ravelli, who also revealed how the world of electronic instrumentation can benefit from NFC technology, i.e., that which is widely used today for “mobile” payments and which allows the exchange of information between a smartphone and another device simply by putting them in contact: on the smartphone you decide on the information (engine RPM, fuel, speed, etc etc) that you would like to display on the 1.44-inch ViewLine Flex display, bring the phone close to the display et voila! www.veratron.com
