As they do every year, the DAME Design Awards, the prizes for the most innovative products, selected by an international jury of experts, are presented at METS in Amsterdam (the world’s largest marine accessories show, Nov. 19-21).

We still don’t know who will win, but we took a tour of the 59 “nominees” in contention in the various categories (electronics, furniture and interiors, harbor products, deck accessories and rigging, clothing, safety, and propulsion): there is no shortage of interesting news.

In this first installment dedicated to DAME, we have selected for you all the “cool stuff” competing in the “Marine Electronics & Marine Related Software) category.

TWELVE “COOL” THINGS FOR YOUR BOAT

DIGITAL YACHT – GPS160 TRINAV
The GPS160 TriNav is a high-performance position sensor that uses GPS, Glonass, and the new Galileo satellite system. It has multiple interfaces and improves accuracy and reduces tracking difficulties that might occur due to spoofing and local interference. It also supports a simple external “Man Overboard” function that creates a “synthesized” MOB AIS message that can be interfaced with the charplotter.

FURUNO – NAVNET TZT2BB
The NavNet TZT2BB is a BlackBox system equipped with a dual CPU that provides significant operational speed to the network architecture. The first major innovation is the separate management of two displays at the same time with a single Black Box. The displays are touch-screen and have an easy, intuitive interface and design using bright, bold colors that aid identification of icons for radar, fish finder, chartplotter, weather, camera, instrument, and navigation data display selection. In addition to touch-screen management, the NavNet TZT2BB Black Box system can be controlled through a professional keyboard model MCU-005 (optional): one keyboard can manage up to two monitors.

RAYMARINE – M364C MARINE THERMAL CAMERA SYSTEM
M364C is a marine camera system that integrates a high-resolution thermal camera and a high-definition “normal” camera. It is the world’s first camera to offer Color Thermal Vision (CTV) technology, which allows boaters to see key color information such as navigation lights and navigation aids illuminated on the thermal camera image.

RAYMARINE – DOCKSENSE ALERT
DockSense Alert is the next generation of Raymarine smart docking technology that works on any boat. Using FLIR’s stereo vision technology, DockSense Alert detects and alerts the captain when obstacles approach the vessel and immediately warns when the vessel is in danger. Live video feeds from each camera make it easy to see blind spots directly on the multifunction display.
