Those who own a Swan know this. His boat is something special that makes him proud and he is happy to show it off. Not to show off, but to compare themselves with other lucky owners who own them. And it doesn’t matter if the boat is brand new or has dozens of years on its back. That’s why every Swan gathering is a great success. Like the two events that took place over the weekend of mid-June 2021. Two very different events, united only by “Swan Mania.”

The first was held June 24-27 in Marciana Marina (organized by CVMM) and gathered Swans from the first phase of the Finnish (but Italian-owned) shipyard’s history, that of the legendary Swans designed by Sparkman & Stephens, models built from 1974 to the 1980s.

Some 20 iconic Swans participated in the 9th S&S Swan Rendezvous, held every two years.

And it is no coincidence that the overall victory in the races that took place went to the smallest and “oldest,” Josian, Swan 36 of Florentine owner Eugenio Alphandery, who also takes the lead in the minor class thanks to two heat victories.

Second place Overall for Vanessa, Swan 47 by Matteo Salamon from Milan, helmed by his wife Giulia.

In third place, again in the Overall ranking, is Mascalzone Latino XXXIII, Vincenzo Onorato’s Swan 38.

HERE you will find the overall standings of the 9th S&S Swan Rendezvous.

In Sardinia the very fast Swans of the latest generation

The second Swan event was a different matter altogether; it involved the latest generation Swans, the very fast Club Swan one-designs.

In Porto Cervo, Sardinia, June 24-26, 34 Swans of the classes were battling it out in the first edition of the Swan Sardinia Challenge (organized by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda). Club Swan 50 (look at here the boat), the largest class, and then the Club Swan 36 (look at here the boat), which even have foils.

Among the “older” Swan monotypes were the Club Swan 42s (check out the boat here ) andSwan 45s (check out the boat here ).

Here are the winners: Marcus Brennecke’s ClubSwan 50 Hatari won its class ahead of Dmitry Rybolovlev and Andrey Konogorov’s Sparti and Leonardo Ferragamo’s Cuordileone. Very level values among ClubSwan 36, where they take the podium, enclosed in just 3 points, in the order G-Spot of Giangiacomo Serena Di Lapigio, Vitamina of Andrea Lacorte and Farstar of Lorenzo Mondo.

Pedro Vaquer Comas’ ClubSwan 42 Nadir wins ahead of Luca Formentini’s Koiré – Spirit of Nerina, third place overall for Natalia tied on points with Dralion in fourth. In the Swan 45 Class, Stefano Masi’s Ulika won by two points over Lennard van Oeveren’s Dutch Motions , third place for German Klaus Diederichs’ Fever.
