Dusseldorf Boot 2021, the world’s largest indoor boat show, has been cancelled.
The news was already in the air but now confirmation has come. The postponement of the event, traditionally in late January, to the third week of April, from the 17th to the 25th, was not enough. Wise decision: even if it had taken place, who would have ever been able to visit and how many producers would have invested in exhibiting in a show that risked being desultorily empty?
The first signs had come when some of the major international shipyards and manufacturers expressed strong concerns about their participation, despite the shift in dates. To date, Germany, after Britain, is the European country most affected by Covid-19, with nearly 30,000 positive cases per day (Jan. 20 figure) and continuous local lockdowns blocking movement within the nation and from abroad.
Boot’s 2022 dates: January 22-30.
At this point, as the pandemic evolves, what future is there for physical salons in 2021?
