It was a long day on the water in Enoshima for the Italian sailing team involved in the Tokyo Olympics, but after many hours spent at sea the balance sheet smiles on our people. While waiting for the program in the other classes to begin, the focus of blue sailing remains on the RS:X and in the women’s Lasers, with Mattia Camboni, Marta Maggetti and Silvia Zennaro.
Today another day of medium and very fluctuating winds, difficult to interpret, but with which our people are getting in tune. Mattia Camboni is the man of the day, the boy from Civitavecchia is showing steady nerves and mentality: after finishing fourth on his debut day today, he climbed back up and now finds himself in the lead among the RS:Xs. 8-2-2 Camboni’s partials today, with 8 then discarded as the worst result. Also key to his day was a protest, won ashore, against Dutchman Kiran Badloe, who in a buoy approach tacked too close to the Italian athlete. Tomorrow for the RS:X will be the last day of racing before the Medal Race.
She continues to remain in the top 5 for Marta Maggetti in the women’s RS:X, although today the Cagliari-born, with a day’s partial of 13-6-7 lost points from the podium. Leading the way is transalpine Charline Picon, who is paired on 14 points with Britain’s Emma Wilson. Third, at 15, is China’s Lu.
It was also a great day for Silvia Zennaro, who in the Lasers even climbs up to fourth position after a banner day: the girl from Chioggia records a scintillating 2-6 that places her fourth 7 points behind third, Denmark’s Anne Marie Rindom, second the Greek Vasileia Karachaliou, leading the Norwegian Line Flem Høst.
