There is great excitement along the Rome shoreline for the TAG Heuer VELA Cup / 100 Sails 2021. In fact, there are only five days left until this event, which takes place on July 3 and 4 and sees the third stage of the famous circuit organized by the Journal of Sailing intersect with the capital’s historic regatta organized by the sailing clubs of the Roman coast since 1995 and which in this 2021 celebrates its 25th edition.
The identity of this major sailing event and its style is to be open to every sailor and boats of all sizes, both offshore and sport dinghies and multihulls. An absolutely inclusive formula that not only pleases us at the Sailing Newspaper and reflects the very values of our TAG Heuer VELA Cup, but is appreciated and shared by hundreds of enthusiasts who line up at the start of this event each year.
TAG Heuer VELA Cup / 100 Sails: a great fleet against violence and for the environment
And this year, among the very crews lined up for the start of the VELA Cup/100 Sails, there is no shortage of evidence of the event’s fine formula devoted above all to inclusiveness. There will be, for example, representations from the 10000 Sails of Solidarity association, which in 2021 wants to invite all sailors to express tangible and concrete support for the fight against gender-based violence and particularly on women under the slogan “Let’s change course together.”
The symbol of the initiative will be for everyone to hoist a long red ribbon on the mast of the boat as a sign of belonging to this great solidarity fleet. An event that also wants to testify to the restart after this difficult period of pandemic and social isolation, the VELA Cup/100 Sails will also be attended by crews of anti Covid doctors from the Grassi Hospital in Ostia and the Pertini Hospital in Rome to testify to the long and valiant efforts of the past and present months of these professionals in the health facilities located throughout the territory.
There will be no shortage of SAIL Cup/100 Sails in the fleet also crews formed by the disabled and people with various social hardships who precisely in sailing find a path to redemption and re-appropriation of a healthy and positive life. And then again testimonials from the Save the Children association and the environmental association Marevivo, which for years with its “Plastic Free” campaigns has been working to raise awareness among sailors and citizens about the need to safeguard our Mediterranean.
