They had described him as an “inexperienced sailor,” and he came to a bad end. The decomposing body of 42-year-old Englishman Mark Brennan, a window cleaner by profession, was found aboard his 30-footer “Avrio” off the coast of Jamaica.
He had been listed as missing since December 21: no one had been able to contact him since his Atlantic crossing from England to the Caribbean. He was last seen on Dec. 6, when the man had left his moorings from Grenada.
His boat was finally spotted drifting about 75 nautical miles off the coast of Jamaica on Monday and towed to the island. The boat’s tank was full of dirty fuel, there was no radio or even a smartphone on board. Brennan also had lost his tender while crossing the Atlantic.
The cause of Brennan’s death, as of now, is still unknown. What happened in the Caribbean Sea?
