Italy gold in the ongoing Optimist World Championship in Antigua, Caribbean, in the team competition. The feat, beating Thailand in the final, was accomplished by our terrible boys: Marco Gradoni, Davide Nuccorini, Alex Demurtas, Tommaso De Fontes and Ginevra Caracciolo. Third place went instead to Peru.
Yet another confirmation for our movement, after the double victory at the Europeans (Read HERE), in short when we talk about optimist and in general about youth sailing it is impossible not to talk about Italy. And it may not be over yet: there is now only one day left until the end of the entire world championship, and Marco Gradoni is leading the individual standings.
Optimist at this level, however, is no longer a game. It’s hard training, hard work, maniacal preparation of every detail, and races even contested in extreme conditions for these boys who are barely teenagers. The photo gallery below, by Matias Capizzano, tells it all well.
