Those who have been drifting are familiar with the Anglo-Saxon term “pitchpole,” we are basically talking about the bow scull, the typical somersault that occurs in the stern under spinnakers or in general in strong winds. The boat sails a little too lean and not fast enough for the pressure it has on the sails, the helmsman doesn’t tack in time, the bow goes underwater, and the omelette is made: the boat sinks the bow slightly, reducing its speed to zero knots in an instant, at which point it lifts off the stern to capsize.
