Swan 36
Swan Thirty Six
The dead work becomes the living work (as we told you HERE), but while this is true it certainly does not mean that what remains submerged underwater has lost importance, quite the contrary. In this underwater photo of the Club Swan 36 is the essence of this revolutionary boat designed by Juan Kouyoumdijan, and more generally an overview of the design trends that are revolutionizing the sailing world.
C-foils, so-called “skimming” fo ils capable, through a combination of lateral and vertical forces related to boat speed and heeling angle, of reducing hydrodynamic drag while at the same time, upwind, generating a positive drift.
The deep, thin-bladed keel with a bulb in a slightly backward position for hydrodynamic reasons and to hold the barycenter slightly further back and thus the bow higher.
And finally the “humpback whale fin” rudder, with round teeth reminiscent of those of the famous cetacean, a choice of shape designed to reduce cavitation problems and turbulence at high speeds. A concentration of technological and design solutions that represent some of today’s frontiers in the sailing world.
