What will the weather be over the weekend on our coasts? To help you decide whether to go out and “pull two edges” or keep the boat in port, we asked Riccardo Ravagnan, Forecast & Services Manager at Meteomed, for help in revealing what the weather will be like along the Italian coast. Here is his “bulletin”:
WHAT WILL BE THE WEATHER OVER THE WEEKEND ON OUR SEAS
SYNOPTICS: Over the next few days, ahead of the weekend the action of an active depression circulation between France and Spain will persist, leading to unstable weather at times between the Gulf of Lion and northern Italian basins as well as favoring the transit of stratiform cloudiness over the central-western Mediterranean. Meanwhile, a North African-driven anticyclonic field over the central and eastern Mediterranean will remain active, guaranteeing a very warm, stable and sunny period.
WINDS: Friday’s strengthening S/SSE winds tending to moderate over mid to upper Tyrrhenian Sea, Sardinia Channel and Sicily, Sardinian Sea, eastern Ligurian Sea. Weak variables over the rest of Italy. Strengthening from the SW at times sustained over the Alboran Sea, moderate from the NE over the Libyan coast, moderate from the north over the Aegean Sea, tending to strong over the northern side of Crete. On Saturday, moderating currents across the western Mediterranean. Winds moderate SE over the Alboran Sea, moderate N over the Balearic Islands, weak variable over the Italian basins with prevailing breeze. Winds at times moderate NW over the Sardinia Channel and Sicily, moderate NE over the Libyan Sea, strong northerly over the Aegean Sea. Sunday moderate Mistral over the western Mediterranean and Tyrrhenian Sea, moderate NE winds over the Libyan Sea, strong northerly over the Aegean but gradually easing. Weak variable to breezy over Adriatic and Ionian.
SEA: Friday up to rough western Mediterranean Sea especially Gulf of Lion, very rough Sardinian Sea and Corsican Sea especially offshore, rough mid to upper Tyrrhenian Sea and Sicily Channel, almost calm or slightly rough remaining Italian sectors. Rough Aegean Sea, to very rough east of Crete. Saturday and Sunday still very rough, at times very rough in the western Mediterranean, especially near the Balearic Islands, rough in western Liguria, Sea and Channel of Sardinia, Channel of Sicily, nearly calm or slightly rough over the rest of Italy. Tending to very rough Aegean, occasionally rough offshore.
