licenseA mini-boating license, designed to bring even the youngest people closer together. The proposal comes from Assonautica Venezia, of which Marino Masiero is president, but is potentially aimed at all of Italy. An idea that aims to train a new generation of boaters who are more aware and able to go to sea more safely. But also to approach an audience of boaters who, for a variety of reasons forgo the classic license, with a simpler, but more limiting one. Here’s how it would work.

What the mini-boat license consists of

The proposal of
Assonautica Venezia
For the so-called “mini boating license”. Basically, it is a license to drive recreational craft under 10 meters waterline length, (watercraft), and engines up to 120 horsepower, for those who are 18 years of age or older. A “light” version of the 12-mile license to bring closer a substantial number of boaters who, due to issues of time, money and difficulty, forgo getting a license.

A boating license, attainable by age 14, would also be added to this. The powers would, of course, be equated with age: a short course, an exam, and the ability to safely carry small vessels with reduced power. The idea traces the one for motorcycles and mopeds whereby until the age of sixteen one cannot drive vehicles over 50cc. A kind of patent, but for watercraft.

In fact, neither charting tests nor headlight study would be included in this mini license. The boat would be usable de facto only during the day and within 3 miles of the coast.

A boating license within everyone’s reach

The goal of Assonautica Venezia is therefore to create nautical culture by teaching what are the basic rules for safety at sea with a more accessible version of the classic license.
