of 43.6 meters and Topaz (J8) of 42.6 meters: the two boats had a very bad collision while sailing on different tack. The one being hit on starboard tack is Topaz.
Just before the start of the first race, according to reports from the J Class Association, the two J-Classes collided sustaining a variety of injuries. A very bad blow in which two crew members were injured and transported to the hospital. There are no casualties fortunately, but both boats have retired.
The two J Classes that have already faced each other several times on the race courses and on board both boast crews of seasoned veterans. This time, however, for reasons yet to be clarified, there was a real risk. Probably a carelessness…
