On the evening of Saturday, May 7, and in the afternoon of Sunday, May 8, it is best to stay in Santa Margherita. There is great celebration at the dock. Everything is open, even in the evening.
Saturday, May 7 is time for the long and magical night of the VELAFestival, which for one day forgets to close and stays open all evening. Boats on display and booths are open. But a self-respecting Saturday night also wants a party. It starts at 7 p.m. with theVELACup awards party: hundreds of sailors gather in the spectacular event area overlooking the sea. After refreshments with hot dish and all-you-can-drink wine, while the bar remains open, we move a few steps, to the dock, to watch from 10:30 p.m. the Crazy Night Race. Illuminated by powerful photocells with music and commentary “Ã la Gialappa’s Band,” the best sailors from the VELA Cup crews jump aboard two H22s and compete in fierce match races in Santa’s harbor. On board, in addition to the selected sailors, are two outstanding skippers, Roberto Spata and Simone Gesi. After the selection batteries, the best two crews compete in the finals.
Guaranteed fun is also guaranteed on Sunday, May 8 from 12 noon when in front of the Beach Village beach everyone can compete in the VELAFestival Watergames with battery races aboard Sup and Kayak. Everyone can register for free online at the website of our friends at Outdoor Portofino by clicking on this link. This will be a team relay race with Kayak and SUP trials. The amateur competition is open to anyone who wants to get involved in a healthy and fun form of competition, children, teens, adults and athletes. Participants can register in teams of 3 or individually; if so, new teams will be created on the day of the event by Outdoor Portofino. Participants can use their own equipment or that provided by Outdoor Portofino.
