In the 1970s Gian Alberto Zanoletti, with a group of friends, began a collection of antique boats of all kinds exclusively from Lake Como. In 1982, the Museo della Barca Lariana was born in a 19th-century spinning mill on the shores of the Lake, in Pianello del Lario (CO).

AN INVALUABLE HISTORICAL VALUE
An invaluable heritage for the history of Italian boating, it houses a collection that is unique in the world for its vastness and importance: 80 sailboats, 200 rowboats and gondolas, 50 fishing boats, 200 touring and 40 racing motorboats, smuggling rowboats, military boats, work barges; and again, 300 outboard motors, 80 inboard boats, the oldest boat on Lake Como, and thousands of accessories and pertinent items. In addition, an important archive collects hundreds of recordings, slides, books, journals, more than 3,000 photographs, and documentation of each exhibit. Unfortunately, the museum has been closed to the public since 2000, but today it is the focus of a restoration project to reopen it (your support is also needed).Below is a beautiful video by Giorgio Oppici telling its story and photographing its current state.
