Some time ago on the shores of St. Maarten, a daring recovery of a rocky sailboat in Ladder Bay was staged: it seemed like a hopeless situation, but instead… and instead all our kudos go to the rescue team, who rescued goats and cabbages in formed wave conditions: the boat was badly damaged but as you can see from the video the rescuers managed to keep it afloat.

THE INCREDIBLE RECOVERY OF THE BOAT

But how had the boat gotten into this mess? One has to go back to a few days earlier, when due to the swell the mooring line, which tied her to the buoy, got caught between the keel and rudder (difficult, but not impossible), and the rubbing damaged her, causing her to blow her mooring. The crew, a French family of five with three young children, were not on board and had spent the night ashore-they had given themselves a three-day “earthly” break after six months of sailing. Pretty bad luck, although it is a good idea never to leave your boat unattended at the buoy for such a long time and especially when the sea is rough…
