Today Thursday, September 24, in Cannes there was a tribute by the crews of the vintage boats of the Regates Royale to the great French yachtswoman Florence Arthaud, who died in a plane crash last March: Arthaud lived in Cannes itself. All the boats on the dock with crews at the bow celebrated the “fiancée of the oceans,” paying homage and saluting Philippe Monnet’s boat “Coeur Vaillant” boat of the Cannes Yacht Club that was the protagonist in 1978 of the rebirth of the Cannes Regattas Royales, and on which Florence sailed for a long time.

A TRIBUTE TO FLO, THE QUEEN OF THE OCEANS
The ocean becomes his playground at age 17. After a serious car accident that forced her to have a long rehabilitation, in 1978 at age 21, she participated in the solo transatlantic La Route du Rhum that put Florence in the spotlight. She is one of the youngest in the race and the second woman to participate in the regatta, aboard X.Périmental, a 38′ Frioul aluminum boat. Two years later, he participated in OSTAR with Miss Dubonnet, a two-tonner designed by Paul Elvstrom, but had to drop out due to dismasting. The Ostar remains in his heart and on his third participation in 1990 he won against all odds and became a true star. (BC)
