No record is unbeatable. And the 2012 Sydney Hobart one, by Wild Oats of the late Bob Oatley, also capitulated. The new king of the Australian classic (628 miles from Sydney, Australia, to Hobart, Tasmania) is named Anthony Bell, and he is the owner of Perpetual Loyal, which we tell you about below. His race time (one day, 13 hours, 31 minutes and 20 seconds) is a full 4 hours and 51 minutes less than Wild Oats.

The record was made possible by the strong northeast wind that accompanied Bell (and skipper, Australian Laser champion Toms Slingsby) throughout the race.

As a direct heir to the VOR70s, which were built to perform best on carriers, it has an uncommon gliding ability.
