Singer Dolcenera (stage name Emanuela Trane) chose herself a pretty cool boat for the video of “Amaremare,” her new summer hit with an ecological and anti-plastic theme. This is the legendary 1959 Sangermani Voscià (design by Sparkman & Stephens), armed in Yawl and a glorious history behind it. And by the way, it appears to be for sale.

THE STORY OF VOSCIÀ
From the December 2013 Sailing Newspaper. The story of Voscià began in the late 1950s, when in 1959 owner Riva asked Sparkman&Stephens to design a boat inspired by the design of the then-famous Finisterre, whose construction was then commissioned from the Ligurian shipyard Sangermani.
In 1959, under the name Oliana II, this hull was launched in Lavagna and immediately won important regatta results: it was second at the Giraglia.
Not a bad debut. After a few years, however, Oliana II was sold to Admiral Louis Durand de la Penne, famous for his medal for military valor earned during World War II after forcing a German blockade of the British base in Alexandria, Egypt.
At his command, the boat changed its name to Givaré and for a decade traveled the Mediterranean making base in Portofino with respected sailors on board, such as Agostino Straulino. In 1971, the Sangermani changed owners again: it was the turn of the Resnati family who, in honor of De la Penne changed the boat’s name to Voscià which means “Vossignoria” in Genoese, the appellation with which the Portofinesi addressed the Admiral with deference. After thirty years of honored sailing, the Resanti family decided to put Voscià up for sale: and this is where Giancarlo Lodigiani comes in, who had a mysterious connection with this boat that is linked to the past and still unknown to him.
“I FOUND THE BOAT I USED TO PLAY ON AS A CHILD.”
The first time Giancarlo Lodigiani, boarded Voscià, interested in buying her at the suggestion of a friend, he did not realize that that was the hull on which he had sailed with his father and Admiral de la Penne as a child.
The revelation comes by chance, chatting with a historic carpenter in Portofino, Mr. Mino, who, while putting him in touch with the boat’s owners, tells him about the days when the boat was called Givaré and was under the command of Admiral de la Penne. A “carrambata” in grand style, Giancarlo Lodigiani could not believe that he had found the boat on which he played as a child and aboard which he was put to polish the candlesticks by the admiral to prevent him from making trouble. This series of coincidences removed any doubts about his purchase from Giancarlo, who was already in love with the boat’s lines.
Vosciá was to be his. And of his family. So between 2006 and 2007 he decided to have it restored in Chiavari. “I chose to do a major restoration, because I use the boat either alone or with my family, so I wanted to make sure that I had a solid and safe boat on my hands, one that would be absolutely reliable in any weather-marine situation that I faced. And this is because I consider myself a solo sailor with family on board.” The restoration thus involved rebuilding the electrical and plumbing systems, replacing the engine and water and fuel tanks, and rearranging the cockpit so that the end result was yes a vintage boat, but at the same time technically reliable.
