New adventure for ocean navigator Matteo Miceli. Paired with Mario Girelli, aboard the Eco40 (a Class 40 modified by Miceli to be totally “zero impact,” on which the sailor nearly completed a circumnavigation of the world without using fossil fuels) renamed ScireMundi, will challenge the “Wally records Ventotene-Carthage.” established in 2009 by Andrea Mura with the Open 50 Vento di Sardegna in 31h 21′ 40″ over the distance of 277 miles, from the Pontine archipelago to Tunisia.
Miceli and Girelli will depart from the stretch of water in front of the port of Ventotene to reach the port of Sidi Bou Said. The record is an event included within the ‘Carthago Dilecta Est,’ the regatta organized by Circolo Velico Ventotene for over 20 years.
“We plan to give the start from Ventotene beginning Dec. 9, the first favorable weather window,” Mauro Ugazio of Circolo Velico Ventotene revealed to us. “If the weather will allow it to start the boat between 5 a.m. and 7 a.m. so that it can arrive between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m., hitting the target, at Sidi Bou Said the next day.”
