Why the VELA Cup in Venice is not to be missed
Summer is the time to get back on the boat, and you are always on the hunt for new itineraries and destinations to discover, sailing of course. The trend today is to combine a beautiful nautical location with a special and unique event. And then if during the cruise you have the opportunity to sail in the fleet and make new friends, the pleasure of the vacation is even greater.
Listen to this. On Saturday, July 17, there is a not-to-be-missed, world-famous event, the Feast of the Redeemer, a traditional festival in Venice, with its centerpiece on the island of Giudecca, celebrated every year to commemorate the end of the plague epidemic of 1575-1577. And next up is the TAG Heuer VELA Cup/Round The Lido Race, a memorable celebration of sailing open to all types of boats and crews of all levels that is staged next July 23. So here’s the clever idea: how about taking a full week’s vacation in the Lagoon and opening and closing the cruise with these two electrifying experiences? It would definitely be a vacation to be told and remembered.

There is a free berth for everyone
And speaking of free berths, there are two options for everyone. First, there is the prestigious sports venue of the Compagnia della Vela on the Island of San Giorgio, opposite St. Mark’s Square, which will host boats arriving from outside Venice free of charge. This is also where the prize-giving party and entertainment and games on the water reserved for participating crews will take place.
And then there is Venice Certosa Marina, on Certosa Island, which provides more free moorings. In this recreational dock that can accommodate 400 boats up to 70 meters in length, participants in the TAG Heuer VELA Cup/Round The Lido Race will find cozy floating docks equipped with water, electricity, wi-fi and 24-hour guard service.
In short, many events, many smiling faces, a festive atmosphere and unique scenery await you at the TAG Heuer VELA Cup/Round The Lido Race. If this is not a good sailing vacation!
