USED BOATS, THREE SUN ODYSSEY FOR YOUR COMFORTABLE CRUISING

A JEWEL SIGNED BRIAND & WINCH

The first of the used boats we offer is a 1993 Sun Odyssey 47, visible in Salerno. E’ 14.43 m long, 4.45 wide and is fully equipped: Yanmar 75 HP engine (approx. 2412 engine hours), shaft line transmission, 3-blade folding propeller, Autohelm Raymarine full electronics, Custom 3 cabin version with aft master cabin, two bathrooms, One Sail sail set, Teak deck, generator…

The hull of the SO 47 is derived from the one that Philippe Briand designed for the Sun Kiss 47 model, which it replaced from 1991 until 1997 for about 80 examples produced. From 10 knots of wind, the Sun Odyssey 47 offers outstanding sailing performance with a decisive and powerful passage over the wave. Plenty of available deck space as sundecks and comfortable walkways allow exemplary circulation. Covered and comfortable cockpit for 8/10 people with the center fold-down table. Stern equipped with a scenic descent to the sea. Inside, the design was studied by one of the wizards in the field, Englishman Andrew Winch.

A TIMELESS BESTSELLER

The second boat in the successful Sun Odyssey series is a 34.2 (10.30 m x 3.29 m), from 2001. Nineteen years old worn very well: the boat, the ad says, has been “lightly used and in excellent condition, interior as new , YAMMAR 30hp engine, 220 hours of running time approximately.”

The boat is equipped to the hilt: “Sail mainsail and jib Elvstrom, Lazy Bag Elvstrom, Life-saving equipment for up to 8 people, 20 kg anchor with electric windlass, Spare anchor, External shower, Internal and external cushions ,Dark blue bimini Anti-UV rays 3-blade propeller Max Prop Compass, barometer and communication systems (Radio, VHF etc) GPS Log + wind station + Raymarine sounder Teak cockpit.” The list goes on and on.

A successful boat this. As many as seven hundred were produced from 1996 to 2002, credit to its attractive price for its size and a distinct vocation for cruising. The Sun Odyssey has great roominess; one of its strengths is its waterline length of as much as nine meters, which allows for remarkable speeds. The cockpit is comfortable and easy to maneuver, with only two winches to provide for everything. The stern is equipped with a swim platform, which is accessed by lowering the helmsman’s seat.

Below deck comfortable semi-circular dinette with a small additional bench. On the other side is a broadside kitchen (called American style). In the bow is a cabin with a side-by-side bed, and in the stern is one or two cabins with a bathroom and, opposite, a chartroom. The design is by Fauroux with a simple masthead sail plan and relatively little sail, so as to delay sail reduction.

SMALL AND RELIABLE

We close our review of used boats with the smallest Sun Odyssey for sale on our marketplace: this is a 29.2 (8.80 m x 2.98 m) from 1998, visible in Sistiana. “Volvo Penta 20 hp engine, 2 cabins with newly reupholstered, bathroom with toilet recently replaced, tiller steering, recent mainsail and furling genoa in excellent condition, cockpit shower, pilot, VHF radio, radio and CD, depth gauge, awning, windlass , 50 mt chain.”

In production since 1998, the Sun Odyssey 29.2 has been produced in more than 250 examples. Similar in layout to its big brother 32.2, it was also designed by Jacques Fauroux, who favored safety and habitability over exaggerated performance. Nonetheless, the SO 29.2 does quite well in medium winds, especially at carrying gaits. In strong winds it stays balanced at the helm and passes the wave with agility. On deck, equipment is simplified as much as possible, the cockpit is well sheltered, and the stern offers a convenient descent to the sea. The interior: forward a cabin with a double V berth; in the center a square with opposing sofas; on either side of the descent on the port side the galley and on the starboard side the chart table. Aft is a cabin with a large “bunk” and bathroom.
