FIVE USED BOATS BETWEEN 8 AND 12 METERS
SMALL AND SUCCESSFUL
The first of the used boats we offer is a great classic, perfect as a starter boat. We are talking about a Comet 850 (8.55 m x 2.94 m). The Comet 850 was born in 1978 to place itself below, in the Comet range, the successful 910. It actually competed with him because of its habitability, similar to that of a nine-meter.
The interior layout traces that of the 1800s: designed by the cruising boat “wizard” of the time, Jean Marie Finot, it houses a beautiful forward cabin, a dinette that converted into three comfortable berths, and plenty of storage volumes. Excellent upwind performance, thanks in part to great form stability.
The boat in question is in Rimini, is from 1985 and is in fair overall condition: it needs no special work and is ready to sail!

HUMPHREYS’ “SIGNATURE”
We continue our review of used boats with a handsomeElan 31: 9.40 meters long and 3.20 meters wide, this vessel marked the turnover at the Slovenian shipyard between designers J&J and Rob Humphreys. It was 2002. And from 2002 is the very boat we propose, also visible in Rimini.
A super-equipped and ready to sail model: 2 lt. 70 water tanks, Yanmar 20 hp, shaft line, diesel fuel lt. 44, 2 double cabins, oven, refrigerator. Teak cockpit, center bollard, 2 x 120 amp AGM batteries, 1 x 80 amp, solar panel, Battery Monitor BM1, ST 60, ST 4000, Garmin GPS, Standard VHF with DSC and AIS, electric toilet, Rocna anchor, Fortress respect anchor, Kiwi Prop propeller, Spi, tangon, outdoor cushions–and more.

A PALACE IN LESS THAN 10 METERS
The third of the boats used under the lens is a Dufour 32 Classic (9.70 x 3.30 m, in production from 1997 to 2005): the Classic range of the French shipyard Dufour, of which this 32-footer is among the smallest models, consisted of pure cruising hulls designed by the Jakopin brothers’ J & J studio.
Hull of traditional lines, with fairly pronounced deckhouse that allows in the interior discrete heights up to the bow, has masthead rigging without steering wheels. The transom has an integrated step and ladder.
The interior includes two double cabins, aft and forward, a bathroom to the right of the access ladder, and a large saloon. The central dinette has a table with folding doors, while the L-shaped kitchen is of fair size.
The model is from 1998, is equipped with every convenience (Autohelm ST4000 autopilot, GPS, LOG, wind station, water heater, VHF, stereo, galley , refrigerator, cockpit rigging, 4 winches, sprayhood, awning, furling…) and can be visited in Puglia.

A PETERSON JEWEL AT A MOUTHWATERING PRICE
We continue with a great classic that, even today, still ignites the hearts of fans. Designed by Doug Peterson (the designer of Luna Rossa in 2000!), the Show 34 (10.26 x 3.31 m) produced from 1975 to 84) was a well-proportioned boat with good sailing performance and successfully participated in regattas. The cockpit was quite small, given the narrow aft width that characterized the designs of the time. In compensation below deck, the arrangements were comfortable and well thought out.
There were two versions, which differed in the layout of the square. In the first (called L7) on the right is a U-shaped sofa, which can be converted into a double bunk. In the second (R7) two bunks per broadside, placed one above the other, with a fold-down table in the middle. In the bow is a cabin with a double bed and a toilet; next to the descent is the galley. Aft a cabin. However, the simple fiberglass construction was solid and safe (beware of osmosis!).
The model under review, visible in La Spezia, is from 1978. It has tiller steering and with all equipment. Buck 20 HP engine, rebuilt 2018. It is being sold, reluctantly, by the two partners who have had it for 25 years, “due to age limitation.” The price is very attractive.

SOFT LINES, SMOOTH CRUISE
We close our review of used boats with a Bavaria 36 Cruiser (11.40 x 3.60 m). A very successful model for Bavaria, so much so that they decided to refresh it and put it back into production after so many years. The one we are telling you about, however, is the original designed by J&J Design studio.
A boat with very soft lines, characterized by a semi-open stern and soaring bow and stern that make it pleasing to the eye. Internally, the level of finish is good and the volume important, thanks in part to a rather long deckhouse that ends well forward of the mast. “Quiet” hull but can also offer decent sailing performance.
The model we offer is from 2003, which can be visited in Rimini: in good overall condition, it is equipped with electric furling and in the last three years the engine and services batteries have been replaced, the sail play and the teak rubberizing has been redone.
