by Sea Time – The Clocks of the Sea
Limited edition of only 300 pieces for Ulysse Nardin‘s Diver Blue Shark. This timepiece features an elegant blue hue. The steel case is designed with a small diameter of 42mm to allow this watch to be worn every day.
Inside is the Caliber UN-816, a self-winding mechanical movement with a 42-hour power reserve that drives hours, minutes and seconds. The date window is positioned at 6 o’clock. Information that is easy and immediate to read, thanks to the choice a dial that, from an aesthetic point of view, is in the name of maximum formal cleanliness, in line with the stylistic codes of timepieces designed for diving. The Le Locle-based company designed the Diver Blue Shark to withstand depths of up to 300 meters.
On the caseback is an engraving depicting the anchor, the symbol of Ulysse Nardin, or alternatively, the silhouette of the blue shark. The blue shark takes center stage: depicted in a bright orange, it stands out at 6 o’clock inside the dial. Space has been made on the case profile to accommodate the indication referring to the limited edition number. Other eye-catching details include the concave bezel and domed sapphire crystal. Elements, with a vague retro flavor, that also characterize the entire Diver 42mm range of which the Blue Shark is a part.
The House of Le Locle has a long tradition in the world of the sea and boating. A bond that is being strengthened in light of the feat accomplished this year by Dan Lenard, who rose to headlines for completing a unique feat: a solo Atlantic crossing aboard a 33-foot sailboat without the aid of an engine or any electronic instrumentation. The only companion was the Diver Chronometer Great White. Purpose of the mission? To bring attention back to the state of health of the oceans today increasingly compromised by pollution and where the weather factor plays a key role.
