Jack-Sparrow-1280x800
In 2017, Pirates of the Caribbean returns, with “Salazar’s Revenge!” Johnny Depp returns to the role of the coolest pirate in movie history, Captain Jack Sparrow, for which he had an Academy Award nomination.
He will now be joined by Oscar winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Skyfall”), rising young star Kaya Scodelario (“Maze Runner,” and British TV’s “Skins”) by Brenton Thwaites (“Maleficent,” “The Giver”) and Golshifteh Farahani (“Like Patient Stone,” “Exodus – Gods and Kings”). Also joining the action are Academy Award winners Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, Kevin R. McNally as Joshamee Gibbs and Stephen Graham as Scrum.

THE PLOT (DON’T WORRY, NO SPOILERS!)
Thrust into a whole new adventure, a hapless Captain Jack Sparrow encounters the winds of misfortune blowing even more impetuously when terrible ghost pirates led by his ancient enemy, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle intent on killing every pirate at sea–including him. Captain Jack’s only hope for survival is to set out in search of the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful tool that gives its possessor total control of the seas. The film will land in Italian theaters in 2017. In the meantime, enjoy the trailer and, at the bottom, our top five movies about sailing and the sea!

SALAZAR’S REVENGE, THE TRAILER

CIAK YES… VIRA. OUR TOP FIVE SAILING MOVIES.

1988 – 10 O’CLOCK FLAT CALM
The film that launched Nicole Kidman (in the prelifting era) into the Olympus of cinema. A couple spot a stranded schooner on the high seas, from which a young man, who is soon revealed to be a crazed psychopath who has murdered his entire crew, descends in a lifeboat. Will he be able to do the same for the young couple? Watch the trailer

1992 – WIND

It is typically American to turn a major sports defeat into a blockbuster film. The film chronicles the life of Dennis Conner, from his defeat in the America’s Cup in 1983, to the creation of the Team Dennis Conner syndicate, to his rematch in 1987. Because only those who fall can rise again. Watch the trailer

1995 – WATERWORLD

Kevin Costner is the star (and producer) of this science fiction film. A colossal filmed on a monstrous budget, it was initially labeled a flop. In fact, he earned more than $100 million net. If you love explosions and special effects, this is for you. Beautiful Costner’s trimaran! Watch the trailer

2006 – DEEPWATER
We follow the tragic participation of the inexperienced Donald Crowhurst in the first Golden Globe Race in 1968 against such holy monsters as Bernard Moitessier and Robin Knox-Johnston. Pure excitement, going back to the early days of ocean sailing. Watch the trailer

2013 – ALL IS LOST
A titanic struggle against human limitations to survive aboard a sinking boat 1700 miles from Sumatra. A great (silent) performance by Robert Redford. A film much discussed for its technical “inaccuracies,” but they do not detract from the pathos of the adventure. Watch the full movie
