We personally tested them on boat cruises, boat show visits, and trials of new models. Here is the ranking of the 10 best 2017 seafood restaurants, and almost all of them by the sea, in Italy with points to France. Here are the main discriminators for the choice we made: they must all be in lovely places, and they must offer good seafood, local food and excellent wine. Mark these addresses for your next boating vacation or weekend stop.

1. PARIS, HUITRERIE REGIS
We discovered this in Paris while visiting the recent boat show. It’s not on the sea but it’s a triumph of seafood. It’s tucked away in the heart of Saint Germain des Pres and is the best place today in Paris to eat fantastic fresh oysters from France’s Marennes-Oléron region on the Atlantic coast. Also, shrimp, clams and sea urchins. A fine selection of white wines from the Loire Valley and a convivial atmosphere. Huitrerie Regis, 3 rue de Montfaucon, Paris, +33 1 44 41 10 07, huitrerieregis.com

2. RIMINI, GUIDO
Emilia Romagna, home of good seafood and long spagge. So, here’s the right advice for a memorable Romagna lunch or dinner by the sea. Guido is a beautiful club on the beach in Rimini. Excellent no-frills seafood cuisine with many options of local catch, including raw. Among the dishes, Not to be missed is the raw shrimp soup with almonds, spaghetti with oysters. But there are also traditional dishes, such as tortellini. Book it!
Guido, Lungomare Spadazzi, 12 47924 Miramare di Rimini (RN) , Tel. 0541 374612, ristoranteguido.it

3. DRILLS, IN THE USUAL PLACE
St. Julian’s beautiful beach is just a stone’s throw away, so after lunch a dip will refresh you. Trattoria Al solito posto is a guaranteed address. Of course, fish is the protagonist: we, who love blue fish, tasted the delicious sardine pie (photo) as well as the fish balls with caper cream. Triumphant the classic couscous alla Trapanese and, to finish, a well-made and not-too-sweet cannoli. Excellent Sicilian wines, we had an exquisite Inzolia.
At the usual place, Via Orlandini 30A, Trapani, Tel. 0923.24545, trattoria-alsolitoposto.com

4. PORTO TAVERNA (OLBIA), DA MARCO
Directly on the beach, with a menu like a real little restaurant with bar service and not like the usual garish “chiringuitos,” in a lovely location overlooking the islands of Tavolara and Molara, northern Sardinia. We anchored and sat ten feet out to sea. The food is not bad but the exceptionality is taken care of by the location. The prices align and the Vermentino is well chilled. We had guazzetto mussels and clams and grilled lobsters. Da Marco, Porto Taverna Beach , Porto San Paolo (Olbia) Tel. 340 8684244, ristoranteportotaverna.it
5. GINOSTRA (STROMBOLI), NONNA ASSUNTA
Also known by its former name of Puntazzo, this bar and restaurant is one of the institutions of Ginostra, perhaps the smallest port in the world, which alone deserves a stop on Stromboli, the most rugged island in the Aeolian archipelago. Central location, extraordinary sea view, and some dishes deserve. At breakfast we recommend the prickly pear granita, at lunch the swordfish rolls, and in the evening the fish fry. Nonna Assunta, Ginostra, Stromboli, Tel. 090/9880288 – 3295427710 – 3385772199, nonnaassunta.it
6. NAPLES, A’ TAVERNA DO’ RE
Mooring your boat at one of the piers near Molo Beverello, take a short walk to one of the temples of traditional Neapolitan cuisine. Starting with baccala’ in three variations, paccheri with mussels and zucchini flowers, and eggplant pollastiello style (photo) stuffed with prosciutto and mozzarella, browned and fried. Or Neapolitan-style meatballs or sausages with fiarielli.Or traditional desserts. Post lunch with a walk through the heart of Naples. A’ taverna do’ Re, Piazza Municipio (adjacent to Teatro Mercadante), Naples, Tel. 081 5522424, atavernadore.com
7. RIVA TRIGOSO (GENOA), BUNKER BAR
Riva Trigoso is one of the bathing destinations for boat keepers in the nearby Gulf of Tigullio. Not everyone knows that, in good weather, it’s also an idea for a very pleasant dinner on the beach with boat anchored in front. The Bunker Bar, a bizarre construction that looks like the deck of a ship, takes care of that. In the summer season it sets up about 30 tables on the beach. Mythical cocktails, excellent fish fry, cod fritters, tasty fish entrees in a remote island atmosphere. Bunker Bar, via B. Brin 19, Riva Trigoso (Ge), Tel 0185459055, bunkerbar.it

8. TERMOLI (CAMPOBASSO), VILLA DELLE ROSE
Directly by the sea, outside the town of Termoli, Villa delle Rose Restaurant is the chic seafood joint in the area. If you have a craving for raw and cooked fish and Molise cuisine, make an enjoyable stop. We enjoyed the fish brodetto with shellfish, homemade orecchiette with mussels clams and arugula, a grill made on sight. All washed down with still white Molise. Villa delle Rose, SS16, 122, 86039 Termoli (CB), Tel 0875 52565, restaurant-villadellerose.it

9. BASTIA (CORSICA), CHEZ VINCENT
A must-visit address in Bastia, Corsica, for those who want to eat “Corsa-style” without getting ripped off by tourist joints. The place to go is Chez Vincent, which also just opened a new place, Petit Vincent specializing in seafood. Don’t be fooled if he also makes pizza and enjoy “l’assiette du bandit corse” and fish cooked on slate. Chez VIncent, 12 rue St Michel, Bastia (Corsica), +330495316250. Bistrot Poissons, Le petit VIncent, 1 rue du Dragon, Bastia +330620737439.

10. TRIESTE, DA MARINO
In the alleys behind Unita’ d’Italia Square, Europe’s largest square overlooking the sea, is the lair of sailors participating in the Barcolana, the world’s most crowded regatta. It is called Da Marino. The atmosphere is that of the harbor taverns described in 19th-century seafaring books: exposed barrels and curious objects hanging on the walls. You eat and drink (a lot!) the true Trieste way and even go just for an aperitif or after dinner. Always crowded, make reservations. Trattoria da Marino, via del ponte 5/a, Trieste, 040 366596 – 328 0778709. www.osteriadamarino.com
