Three electric motors for your boat or tender that you don’t know about
THE PERFECT GIFT!
Give or treat yourself to a subscription to the print + digital Journal of Sailing and for only 69 euros a year you get the magazine at home plus read it on your PC, smartphone and tablet. With a sea of advantages.

In this article we will go precisely to the discovery of the latter, telling you about three solutions for electric propulsion of your boat or tender, which, almost certainly, you do not know.
FINX – FIN 5. BUT WHERE IS THE PROPELLER?
The first solution comes from French startup FinX, and is available for preorder for 2,990 euros. It is a 2 kW full-electric outboard motor, which is equivalent to a conventional 5 horsepower. The special feature of the product is that-it has no propeller. You got it right. It leverages a system inspired by fish fins and technology derived from industrial and medical pumps adapted, under license, to the marine industry.
The propeller is replaced by a corrugated elastomer membrane that undulates like a fin and creates propulsive thrust. To reduce pitching effects and maximize the power density of its motors, the FinX “fin” operates at low amplitude and high frequency. There is zero maintenance, total quietness, and savings. The engine is good for tenders, sportboats, sailboats up to a maximum of 3 tons. How FinX works is explained in detail HERE, you can also pre-order it.
E’DYN – FROM SLOVENIA “HUSH HUSH”
The second solution we propose is called E’Dyn and comes from Slovenia. Among its electrical systems is a range dedicated to the sailing world, with powers from 1.6 to 10 kW, in both “submersible” and Pod versions. Extremely quiet, zero-vibration motors that perform on both small boats and larger hulls and run on both lithium-ion and more traditional AGM battery packs. Take a tour of E’Dyn’s website, especially the “Heavy Duty Sail” section.
For example, the 0204 POD e’dyn Acid foot, with 1.6 kW power is offered at 3,090 euros with the two-blade folding propeller included. But you can also choose, for your tender or small boat, thee’dyn 0610, 6.5 kW, at 2,790 euros.
REMIGO – LOOKS LIKE A HYDROGENERATOR BUT IT’S NOT
Another interesting brand, also from Slovenia, is Remigo.
It looks like a hydrogenerator but it is not. A viable solution for dinghies as well as daysailers, sportboats and small sailboats: it is light (weighs 13.5 kg), easy to stow, is simple to assemble thanks to a bracket with which you can lift it out of the water, can be recharged from 12 to 36 V (and with “superfast” 120/240 V AC charging), and provides a range, at three knots of speed, of about 14 miles. At maximum power (roughly, the engine is comparable to a traditional 3-horsepower) you will have 45 minutes of range.
Using it is super easy thanks to the control bar, especially for maneuvering in the harbor: above the motor body (obviously IP67 waterproof, IP69 in the submerged part, anti-corrosion and maintenance-free) are two buttons, forward and reverse. An indicator will show you the charging status.
The price? 1900 euros + VAT. What do you think? The site is this for Italy info: co*********@**********up.eu
