Two renders are enough to make the imagination travel and begin to get an idea of what the future FlyingNikka will be, the 19-meter mini maxi for offshore racing that Roberto La Corte, on the wave of America’s Cup enthusiasm, decided to equip with foils by commissioning the project from Mark Mills. Meanwhile, the shipyard that will build it has been decided, King Marine of Valencia, which specializes in building composite racing yachts.
The boat winks openly at the AC 75, in particular the deck design seems reminiscent of the New Zealanders’ AC 75. The boat concept in general will be very similar to that of the AC 75, but with one major difference: it will feature si a classic bulbous drift, an element that will in part simplify the design of the foils and in general of the whole boat, compared to the AC 75.
“We are convinced of our choice (The King Marine shipyard n.d.r.) and after all we are talking about atop shipyard worldwide, a guarantee in a complex project like FlyingNikka,” adds Alessio Razeto, Team Manager and Sails Project Manager. “The road to launching is still a long one, we expect to be on the water by the summer of 2022, and we know that in the meantime we will have many variables to deal with, but we are well aware of the complexity of this project, so we are ready to deal with them as best we can.”
