The news had been “snaking” around the “dock” for a few months already; at the Düsseldorf Boat Show, Cantiere del Pardo officially unveiled the new Grand Soleil 44 Performance designed by Matteo Polli, with exteriors and interiors by Nauta Design, the former also in collaboration with the shipyard’s technical department. An ambitious project, a boat that avowedly wants to win in racing while not betraying the use in cruising as well. We talked about it with its designer, a name linked in recent years with his boats’ victories in national international ORC regattas.
The project resulted from the comparison and design development of four different hulls, with collaboration for CFD (Computationals Fluid Dynamics) technology from the Luna Rossa team.
The goal was to create a boat that was efficient in a wide range of weather conditions and also performed well in complex situations such as those defined as “choppy,” or short wave. The result will be a boat with a clearly sporty aesthetic, with some stylistic “signatures” typical of Grand Soleil (the deckhouse in particular) and others characterized by the designer’s interpretation of regulations such as the stern high above the water. The boat will be available with two different sail plans, two lay outs, three different keel options, depending on the intended use, more or less sporty.
Here is what Matteo Polli told our correspondent in Düsseldorf, Mauro Giuffrè:
