Today we tell you a beautiful story of sailing and redemption.
Efisio and Andrea are 18 and 17 years old, respectively, and have ended up on the wrong track in the past. Their “redemption” would have been much more difficult if the two boys with criminal problems had not been entrusted by the Cagliari Department of Justice to sailor Simone Camba‘s New Sardiniasail association.

Months and months of training, going out to sea, comparing notes with ocean sailors, weather, diving and computer classes the boys, aboard the Giro 34 Lima Fotodinamico (along with Camba and Alessandro Carrus, the inspector of the Cagliari Police Headquarters’ flying squad) participated in their first offshore regatta and finished on the podium, finishing in second place (behind Ismale, the other Lap 34 led by Carlo Conte). The 51st edition of the Cagliari – Carloforte.

THEY NEVER GAVE UP
Says Simone: “After months of preparation Efisio and Andrea faced their first challenging race of more than 60 miles non-stop, the conditions were tough and mainly due to the lack of wind that forced us to stand still for hours under a sun that brought temperatures over 40 degrees on Lima Fotodinamico. But in spite of this, the boys never gave up and kept their concentration to the utmost throughout the regatta to achieve the goal of the podium.”

SAILING AS A SCHOOL OF LIFE
The boating experience of the two boys with a difficult past does not stop here, it is aimed at teaching the basics of the sailor’s trade i.e. being able to prepare a boat, take care of maintenance, do charters: but one can also become a professional sailor. Beyond the professional future figure, New SardiniaSail’s project is valuable social therapy because it helps people relate to others and respect the rules of coexistence. A school of life for kids who also need to regain self-confidence.

In addition to collaboration with the Department of Juvenile Justice and the State Police, the project has the support of Fotodinamico, Slam, Raymarine Italia, Bamar, and Osculati.
