We have entered into the thick of the “No Plastic” 2020 contest, launched by Medplastic in collaboration with Navico, a brand that brings together the B&G, Lowrance, Simrad and C-Map brands. More and more plastic hunters are sending us photos of their “catches” around the Mediterranean. Imitate them too who are on a cruise, just equip yourself with a net or a half sailor and the hunt can begin! See who the week’s most active plastic hunters are.
PLASTIC HUNTERS OF THE WEEK
In just a few minutes, children from the SAM Sailing Center, at Poetto (Cagliari), after a small swell, collected these plastic fragments. Little hunters grow up, well done and keep up the good work!
Also very active is Pietro Fiamingo, who sends us photos of his catches from both Elba Island, Marciana Marina (photo left: “Full of plastic …. collected as much as we could by boat”) and Favignana, Egadi Islands (Sicily).
Writes Luca Buono, aka Goodfishes Recyclingart, the artist who collects garbage at sea and turns it into sculptures: “
It may be ganz… but keep it in the Baltic Sea.
Graz.”
James Giulietti sent us this photo from PKS (Professional Kite School) in Grosseto, a sailing school that is very active against plastic: “Do you remember the plastic filters lost last year from a water purifier on the Sele River in Campania ? Here they are, still around the sea and looking perfectly new. Ah what a miracle plastic is!”
Thus Alberto Oggero from the Balearics: “Mallorca, collected in a few minutes in a 10-square-meter space of sea 2 meters from the shore.” Bravo Alberto!
“Catch of the Day,” Michele Gianazza and Tommaso Guido Fortuna write to us from Liguria!
We close with the now customary “gallery” coming from the quintessential plastic hunter, Anglo-Italian Timothy Lucie-Smith, already the winner of last year’s contest and back on track! Here are his and his crew’s catches from Marettimo (Egadi), Licata and during the crossing from Sicily to Malta.
And we are only halfway there, plastic hunters!
