AS SOON AS POSSIBLE GET US BACK ON THE BOAT
Better to say it now before it happens. We would not want lawmakers, caught up in the rush to enact the regulations of the reopening phase toward a return to life away from home, to forget about us sailors.
The real risk is that sailing will be lumped in with sporting activity involving “gathering of people” and thus be kept among the last activities that will be allowed again in the era of pandemic coronavirus.
That would be a huge mistake. Sailboat should be cumulated with the regulations governing houses. Because the boat is nothing more than a houseboat. Therefore, when it will be allowed to move from one house to another, as in the case of second homes, the use of the sailboat be equally given the green light to use it.
As Elisa Fustini, a 43-year-old doctor from Bologna who gave up her round-the-world sailing trip to return to the hospital to care for coronavirus patients, told us (we will tell you her story in the May issue of the Sailing Newspaper): “Paradoxically right now the boat in the middle of the sea is the safest place in the world.”.
