Probably, if your parents were sailing enthusiasts even as children, they will be able to tell you: back in the day, cruising was all about … camping! Or, without going too far back in time, if you’ve wandered around the French coast, you’ve probably seen entire families wandering around with “drifts” and tents. Calculating how many small boats there are in Italy, why is it not done here?
AN INCOMPREHENSIBLE BAN
Simple, because it is forbidden in our country. Bringing your own barge to the beach and spending a night in a tent can cost you hefty fines. Yet we are talking about a type of tourism that could have a decidedly positive impact on the boating industry. Several proposals have been launched in recent years, but nothing has moved. All that would have been needed would have been to place mobile jetties in some of the many stretches of Italian coastline that are difficult to reach from land and give them to a manager who could take charge of them. No dice: the main objections relate to safety and overcrowding of beaches in the summer months. In fact, the various attempts (one of them we remember from Cino Ricci, many years ago, regarding the port of Romagna) that have been brought forward have foundered in the tangle of bureaucratic quibbles (read our investigation here) typical of our country…
Yet it would be a good idea to boost nautical tourism even among young people! Do you agree?
