We have already told you about the “boat under management” phenomenon and all its benefits. In a nutshell, how does it work? The mechanism allows a person to become a shipowner after a certain number of years on very favorable terms. The prospective shipowner must normally advance at least 30 percent of the value of the boat, which constitutes equity (i.e., capital contributed to the company by shareholders) to the company that is to purchase the boat.
What is “improperly” called management is realistically the mandate with or without representation to rent the boat to a charter company. All expenses related to the boat are always and in any case the owner company’s which are normally covered along with the lease payments from the income that the charter company guarantees to the owner company.
Also certain are the advantages for rental companies, which are often dealers of the brands: this is an advantageous system for selling the boats and allowing them to have them in the “showroom” at almost no cost (and thus applying a higher discount than traditional dealers). The profit of the rental company is usually the discount given by the construction site.
