2017 will be a year of great sailing for Italy: in fact, the boot will host some of the most important international sailing events.Between the Adriatic and Tyrrhenian shores, we will see some great things with some of the world’s best sailors involved.
The ORCi World Championship in Trieste
From a numbers standpoint, it is undoubtedly the most anticipated event of the season. More than 100 boats are expected in Porto San Rocco, and the final number could most likely be close to 120 entries. For several seasons now, Italian boats have been the absolute protagonists of ORC regattas, and on the list of favorites it is a must to include some boats with the tricolor on their sterns, Italy’s 998f Low Noise 2 above all. In fact, Giuseppe Giuffrè’s crew already figures among the entries.
The organization of the event, scheduled from June 30 to July 8, is entrusted to the clubs Yacht Club Porto San Rocco (Muggia -TS), Yacht Club Adriaco (Trieste), Triestina della Vela (Trieste), Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano (Trieste), Circolo della Vela Muggia (Muggia -TS), and Circolo Nautico Triestino Sirena (Trieste).
The Melges 32 World Championship
It is a class that has been growing again for the past couple of seasons after a period when numbers were in steep decline. It brings together some of the strongest specialists in monotypy, and the level of racing is always of the highest quality. It is not uncommon to see professionals who have competed in the America’s Cup in this class. Hosting the 2017 world championship will be Cala Galera, Aug. 23-26, with the Circolo Nautico e della Vela Argentario organizing. Due to the special weather conditions in the area, which provides robust thermals during the summer, the expectation is for a grand spectacle event.
