Going around the marinas this summer, we realized that one of the new trends (especially on larger boats), fresh from the motor world, is LED underwater lights. A bit of a “trendy” solution, some will say, but one that is catching on and personalizes the look of the hull. In the roadstead, bright spotlights will make your boat recognizable among others, and there are even those who use special colors to attract, in the night, fish around the boat and enjoy the nighttime spectacle offered by the seafloor or plankton formations.
A GROWING MARKET
On the market actually the number of manufacturers of LED underwater spotlights has multiplied in recent years: in Italy you can find various models (For flush-mount or screw-mount wall-mount: the latter are more suitable for a sailboat, as the hole to be drilled in the hull is smaller), with waterproof and often interchangeable frames, with lights in different colors and customizable.
The only common denominator: low consumption. There are those offered by Romagna-based Quickmarine Lightning(www.quickmarinelighting.com), Piedmont-based Binding Union(www.binding.it) or those by Osculati found on Nauticplace(www.nauticplace.com).
